Albayanos Commemorate International Human Rights Day

Today's streets welcomed the march of Albayanos as they face up to the government's assault on the people's rights.

No less than 1,500 Albayanos from all over the province massed up at Daraga Park at around 9am today where the 7-km march to Legazpi City's Pinaglabanan Monument commenced, sending out along the way the people's indignation at the cruelty and terror of Oplan Bayanihan.

(Elsewhere in the region, Bicolano masses likewise took to the streets to condemn PNoy's anti-people counter-insurgency program. Around 400 militants held a protest rally at Daet, Camarines Norte; Masbate drew a 6000-thick mobilization; while both Camarines Sur and Sorsogon each recorded 1500 march participants.)

The march abounds with flags that attest to the Albayanos' solidarity, and streamers that announce their stance.

Big day to violate rights. The 2nd Infantry Battalion dispatches 2 army trucks to stalk the mobilization in apparent bid to intimidate protesters.

Usual stopover. Protesters hold a program in front of the PNP Regional Headquarters, which also houses intel and combat units of the Army.

Leysibil's lola. More than a year after her granddaughter's death, Angelina Almonacid still cries far justice for the rape and murder of Leysibil allegedly by CAFGU members.

Fred Mansos delivers BAYAN-Albay's statement at a program held in front of the PNP Regional Headquarters.

Reclaim coco levy funds! At the Philippine Coconut Authority office, marchers demand to regain the more than P200M collected from coconut farmers but was usurped primarily by Danding Cojuangco and Juan Ponce Enrile.

Vince Casilihan (R) of Karapatan-Albay and members of the local media prepare for an interview.

Soldier shoots, soldier shot. A 2nd IB trooper taking photos of the protesters is reciprocated by Karapatan camera.

Marching to Pinaglabanan Monument outlines on the streets the people's testament of fighting for justice.

Long line of flags and streamers manifest Albayanos' collective advocacy for a just and progressive society.
